Vizio VP42HDTV20A Review – 42 inch Plasma HDTV
Originally Reviewed on September 9th, 2007The very attractively priced (under $900) Vizio VP42HDTV20A is a 42 inch widescreen Plasma HDTV. This HD set is packed with incredible features; it really makes it hard to believe how incredible the price is. Vizio is a new brand which some buyers tend to steer clear of but with better than average reviews, they have become some of the best value buys on the market today. The VP42 (also listed as the VP42HDTV and VP42HDTV20A) is as stylish as all the higher priced plasma’s with a black bezel surrounding the screen and some sliver speakers located just under that.

So the big question is: how does Vizio compare to the more popular and more expensive flat panel manufacturers? Vizio doesn’t quite compare to Sony, Samsung or Panasonic but that’s expected. You’re very likely to pay nearly double for the same size TV with comparable features. If you’re looking for a pretty decent TV at an affordable rate, Vizio is a very good option.
HDTVUniverse.com gives the Vizio VP42 HDTV 8/10 stars!

What a great TV. I bought the 42 inch Plasma. I was concerned after ordering it and finding the Cnet review on this model. WHen it came and i hooked it up, all those concerns went out the window. It actually does display a 1080p picture. At 1024×768 the picture is just fine! The only real complaint are the built in speakers. They are garbage and sound like a tin can. Remedy. 5.1 surround system.
All this talk about the Green display is non existent to me. I tried many channels and different hues of green. It looks fine! Some really dark scenes have a little grain to them but i lowered the contrast to 45, upped the brightness to 60 and sharpness to 2. Looks beautiful!
The cons on this system are easy to work around because of how bright the system is. I have never seen a TV with such a awesome display of brightness. And it doesnt get washed out either. ( unless the contrast is too high) The sleek look is pleasing to the eye and the internal display, although not high tech, does the job and it is easy to navigate. Thats all that matters, really. No Picture In Picture but i can live without that. ( my son can not) I am very happy with my first Plasma flat screen, being a previous Projector owner. This TV is a great start and i am sure in a few years i will want to upgrade. This does the job wonderfully for now. At 599.00 from Sears, you cant go wrong! Hope this helps you in your choice!
