Up for Review: Samsung PN58C6500 Plasma TV. Especially intended to give watchers the feeling like they’re in a 3D theater, this is a large 58” model in Samsung’s 6500 plasma model line.
This is a three-dimensional set, which provides dimensionality and depth that far exceeds what you might be used to with regular TV. You’ll need to wear 3D Active Glasses to get this 3E effect, as these glasses work synchronized with the TV to create a three-dimensional view. If you go to he Samsung website you may choose from a few varying glasses models. There are classes fit for the young ones, and these are notable for their blue rims. There are also a couple of adult examples in 3D Active Glasses, too. One style is horn-rimmed and bookish. The other is a cooler style. Motorcycle glasses come to mind when examining these. Even if a show was not created as a 3D program, this set transforms regular TV programs into 3D shows.
If you take advantage of Samsung Apps, which are a lot like the apps you can add to your iPhone or iTouch, you may feel like you’re surfing the net, even though you’re actually sitting in front of the television. That’s because the PN58C6500 is an example of Samsung SmartTV. It makes it so easy to stream movies via Blockbuster or Netflix. Or you can watch previously broadcast TV shows with the Hulu app. If you dare, go ahead and enter the anything-goes world of YouTube videos. If you’re into sports, ESPN has created an app called Next Level which will give you sports data. For those with a love for music, there is Pandora. If you can’t stop social networking, simply update either their Twitter or Facebook accounts through those two respective apps.

This 58” TV that also has very little glare because of the FilterBright AntiGlare feature, which helps minimize the glare you get. Also, due to 600Hz Subfield Motion, you’ll have a much smoother viewing time.
This set’s dynamic contrast ratio is adjusted automatically, which means it adjusts the brightness and contrasts automatically, all due to the darkness or brightness of the image. Just one look and you’ll notice how the colors are more vibrant, while at the same time, the darks just look deeper. TheReal Black Filter helps improve what you see, by outdoing the volume of external light reflected. This makes the picture consistent, even during daytime.
This set’s energy efficiency is also a factor worth noting. This model exceeds the Energy Star 4.0 standards significantly — at 26% over the minimum requirement. Such eco aspects may not make your picture any better, but if your utility bills get lower and your carbon footprint disappears slightly, that can only be a positive. These are also thin sets. Additionally, Samsung Plasma TVs have no external transceiver boxes, which reduces amount of hardware in your entertainment center.
