Panasonic TC-P58V10 Review: 58” Plasma HDTV

Up for review: Panasonic TC-P58V10 Plasma TV.  The Panasonic TC-P58V10 is one of the V10 series from Panasonic. It does not have the separate box provided with the Z1, which contained all the inputs, making the Z1 completely wireless. It is marginally thicker than the Z1 also. The Panasonic TC-P58V10 uses the Neo PDP technology which offers much better picture quality. It has improved upon its contrast ratio and response rate leading to a full-HD 1080p resolution.

A review shows that the Panasonic TC-P58V10 has included the innovative VIERA Cast and Image Viewer features which add to the potential of the HDTV. However, the look of this HDTV is not very impressive. The front panel is the same glossy black, but with a grey plastic lining at the bottom. The power button rests on this grey lining. This also conceals a panel consisting of some controls for the HDTV.

The Panasonic TC-P58V10 is not as bright as other LCD models because it misses a backlight. It also runs the risk of image burn-in. However, this HDTV sports a very high contrast ratio of 40,000:1 with very deep black levels. The actual picture quality can be gauged after its release in the market.

Panasonic TC-P58V10 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 58” Neo PDP screen
  • 1080p resolution
  • Digital Cinema Color
  • THH® certified display
  • VIERA Cast™
  • VIERA Image Viewer™ with AVCHD Playback
  • VIERA Link™
  • 600 Hz Sub-field drive
  • 24P cinematic playback
  • 4 HDMI inputs
  • 40,000:1 contrast ratio
  • Infinite Black Panel

The review suggests a healthy refresh rate, but the images seem to flicker. Blurring is absent giving a pretty clear picture. The picture quality is also good at almost all viewing angles. But the colors can be lot better. There is a deepening of colors at the extreme edges and the color on the whole is also not great. Some amount of screen reflection is there when lighter images are superimposed on darker backgrounds.

Since all the ports are located on another box in the Z1, it has a very clean look. The Panasonic TC-P58V10, on the other hand has all the ports at the backside. The ports are fitted at the middle of the rear. You have to rotate the HDTV on its swivel stand to fix the ports.

The powerful VIERA Cast feature will let you watch videos from Amazon Video and On Demand. You can also watch still pictures and photos via the SD card slot. Audio is taken care of by the two speakers situated at the two sides of the rear. In all, the Panasonic TC-P58V10 is a good HDTV if you don’t have too many expectations.
