Panasonic TC-P42G10 Review: 42” Plasma HDTV

Up for review: Panasonic TC-P42G10 Plasma TV.  The G10 series from Panasonic is an offering which has all the good features but for a less price. The main difference is in the cabinet design. The Panasonic TC-P42G10 is a bit thicker than the V10 series. According to reviews, the Neo PDP technology is the special feature of this line of HDTVs. This promises better pictures with improved resolution, contrast and response time. The “Infinite Black” feature will make sure you get an improved black level.

A notable feature of the Panasonic TC-P42G10 is the 600 Hz sub-field drive for the high-speed video signals. The picture quality is very good but the color needs to be improved upon. It also lacks the front panel design of the V10 series but is still well-designed to suit the consumer’s eye. It has an exceptionally thin frame, especially at the edges. The deep black bezel merges with the silver edges at the bottom. The Panasonic TC-P42G10 has a new circular stand, but which does not swivel. The speakers are hidden from view, giving a clean look to the front panel.
The remote is also well-designed with hot keys in prominence.

The VIERA Cast feature lets you have a peek at YouTube videos, Picassa photos, Bloomberg news and the weather of the place. The Ethernet port at the rear of the HDTV provides access to the internet. You also have the option to keep an eye on the happenings in different parts of the house by connecting to networked cameras.

Panasonic TC-P42G10 Features and Specifications Review:

  • 42” screen
  • Neo PDP
  • 1080p resolution
  • VIERA Cast™
  • VIERA Link™
  • THX® certified display
  • VIERA Image Viewer™ with AVCHD playback
  • 600 Hz sub-field drive
  • Game mode
  • 3 HDMI inputs
  • 40,000:1 native contrast ratio
  • Infinite black panel

An innovative feature in the Panasonic TC-P42G10 is one in which you can both prevent and rectify image burn-in. A pixel orbiter takes care of this problem. The Neo PDP panel gives better picture quality while saving a lot of power. The Panasonic TC-P42G10 does not have a picture-in-picture feature and also cannot freeze a frame temporarily.

A review shows that there are 3 HDMI ports on the Panasonic TC-P42G10. There are all the standard inputs along with an SD card slot on the HDTV. As far as pictures are concerned, the THX mode gives the best images. The more sensitive black levels make the pictures more realistic. The different shades of black, including the shadows are distinctly discernible. Every single detail is noticeable.

The Panasonic TC-P42G10 is good enough to compete with any other Plasma HDTV in its range. It will soon be the hottest topic in the entertainment world with a large range of consumers. The Panasonic TC-P42G10 is here to stay.

HDTVUniverse.com gives Panasonic TC-P42G10 8/10 stars!
