LG 50PT350 Review: 50” Plasma HDTV
Up for Review: LG 50PT350 Plasma TV. The craze for Plasma TVs is going to increase with the innovative technologies being incorporated into the new sets this year. This 50-inch set not only promises to overcome the problems of burn-in of pixels and extra reflection of light from the panels, but also takes care of the excessive power consumption problem too. You won’t be complaining about the looks of the TV as it maintains the narrow bezel appearance with a less than 1” depth. This makes it a great picture on the walls. It is surprising that LG has integrated 720p resolution in this set. This might have a bearing on the sharpness of the images considering that it is a 50-inch set.
Although 600Hz sub-field drive has become a common feature in most of the Plasma sets, yet you will enjoy seeing the images akin to 1080p resolution with this technology. Considering that the games and movies are now being packed with excitement and thrills which bank heavily on high action scenes, you will be disappointed if the set was not able to match the high level of action. But the refresh rate makes sure that there is no blurring so that you can watch the action flicks with pleasure. There are many image options in this model too which make sure that you get optimum picture quality. The set has an Intelligent Sensor which understands the brightness needed in the images according to the ambience in the room. The pictures are adapted to the dimly-lit and brightly-lit conditions automatically.
LG 50PT350 Features and Specifications Review:
- 50-inch display
- TruSlim frame
- 720p resolution
- 3M:1 dynamic contrast ratio
- Intelligent Sensor
- 600 Hz sub-field drive
- 2 x 10W sound output
- Energy Star compliant
- 3 HDMI
- 2 component video inputs
The dynamic contrast ratio of 3M:1 is quite good and you can expect very good black levels. In fact, the emphasis is greatly on having a very good picture quality. There are not too many features in this set which can entice a viewer but the fact that it has been able to address the problems of burn-in and energy consumption to a great degree can make the set quite popular. There are 3 ISM modes and an anti-glare coating on the screen which helps to tackle the burn-in problem. This has been a terrific development and you can now opt for the superb picture quality in the Plasma panels without worrying about this problem.
Energy consumption has been lessened to a great degree in this set and it is now Energy Star qualified which means that you don’t have to bother about the high electricity costs anymore. But although the energy crisis has been solved, LG has not given much thought to the connectivity issues in this model. There are hardly 3 HDMI and 2 component video inputs without many other inputs. You cannot use many high definition devices but only be content with a few. The sound system is alright with 20W sound output. This is enough in a quiet room but if you want the thrills to reverberate then you can connect a home theater system. This is a good set if you want a basic Plasma model with a big display size. The price is quite attractive too.
