Up for Review: Westinghouse UW40T2BW 40 LED HDTV

The UW40T2BW offers brilliant picture quality, sound shrillness and an overall pleasurable TV viewing experience. It is a LED-backlit LCD display technology that delivers breathtaking picture sharpness and clarity, attributed to its 1080p native screen resolution. The set has more than 500 LEDs fitted at the backside of the panel that work together to produce a local dimming effect. This also helps deliver good picture smoothness. Featured with 120 Hz refresh rate, the UW40T2BW effectively handles fast-moving videos. Another major attraction of the TV is that, the TV also comes with a powerful set of speakers. The only weak areas of the TV is that the set has only 2 HDMI ports, a relatively poor color accuracy and a low contrast ratio; however, the TV proudly features many other advanced specifications and for under half a grand price. In a nutshell, with the Westinghouse UW40T2BW, you get a budget-friendly 1080p HDTV with a 120Hz refresh rate and robust audio output. Moreover, the Westinghouse UW40T2BW is a no-frills TV, so there’s very little to set up.

The UW40T2BW comes in a deep black thin bezel. The bezel is very sleek, is matte black in color and has lightly textured top and side bezels. The base of the cabinet is also very slim with the stylish Westington logo etched at the bottom of the panel. The cabinet design of the TV is very simple, yet offers an attractive, visually appealing look. The cabinet is fitted with two down-firing 10-watt speakers that are loud and powerful, to provide a lush soundscape. The TV comes with a rectangular, no-swivel stand and has the requisite four VESA mounting holes for placement on a wall. Speaking in terms of performance, the UW40T2BW favors high definition images and impressive picture quality. Watching fast motion action scenes in the TV is a real fun as the 120Hz refresh rate panel provides a smooth, stutter-free picture while watching 2012 on Blu-ray. The contrast ratio and dynamic contrast ratio are also pretty impressive as they produce absolutely flicker free on-screen images.

Color accuracy isn’t that good; red, green, and blue levels were all oversaturated, but the heavy greens have the most impact, causing tinting in skin tones and highlights. The set offers relatively wide viewing angles for an LCD set. Colors remain mostly intact when viewed from the sides and the picture does not lose luminance. The UW40T2BW also features the 3D Noise Reduction Technology to eliminate any disturbances in the incoming signal. Even, the on-screen menu system is well-organized and includes Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Color Temperature, and Hue adjustments. There are five preset picture modes and a handful of audio options. In addition to Bass, Treble, and Balance settings there are five other audio presets and a Surround 3D setting. The surround effect doesn’t come close to the output of a true multi-channel speaker setup, but it does give the TV a fuller-than-typical sound. gives Westinghouse UW40T2BW 4/5 stars!
