Vizio M801I-A3 Review – 80-inch LED HDTV

Originally Reviewed on June 23rd, 2014

Up for Review: Vizio M801I-A3 LED HDTV.

The Vizio M801I-A3 is a monster and is the largest screens available under the M series. The M801I-A3 remains the same product we saw last year but without a 3D functionality. According to Vizio, 3D has been done away with to improve the quality of picture and provide a better value to the customer at a lower price. All the smaller products in this series have been supported by a full array LED backlighting and it could be a disappointing aspect that Vizio has returned to Razor LED with the bigger models like the M801I-A3. Razor LED technology does seem to do a bit less with screen uniformity. However, it isn’t bad enough to affect the picture quality drastically. The Vizio M801I-A3 is available under a price tag of just $3,300 and can be considered to be an excellent buy for value oriented but demanding customers. The M801I-A3 delivers an excellent picture quality and similarly immersive audio experience. Apart from that, the excitement of browsing through the smart Vizio internet Apps is amazing on an 80 inch screen and little needs to be said about gaming!

Vizio M801I-A3 Features and Specifications:

The 2D quality of the M801I-A3 depends highly on the picture mode set by the user. The black level is adequately saturated and the TV also provides a reasonable brightness level. While the imaging cannot be said to be as sharp as the 80 inch models from Samsung, it does provide comfortable details. On calibration, the TV seems to push a bit towards the green/yellow rendition and could be harsh to the eyes. Further, the M801I-A3 comes with just two point calibration without any setting for white balance. Compared to lower sized models, the picture quality looks beaten. However, the 240 Hz refresh rate can be said to be add power to the video making broadcasts smoother and without the customary “Soap Opera” effect. Combined with Smooth Motion Effect it will give a better option for watching action movies, sporting events and playing games. In fact, the Smooth Motion Effect is quite subtle compared to other products it has been integrated with. The 240 Hz processing helps eliminate any judder and somehow compensates the backlog of the picture settings.

Local Dimming is another important feature we see with this TV. It helps the TV automatically adjust to the environment brightness levels and regardless of the lighting condition, the picture has enough contrast and there is little loss in color. Complimenting the picture quality is the SRS audio technologies facilitating clearer dialogues and deep bass.
The Vizio Internet Apps is perhaps the best thing with this model. Browsing through Netflix, Facebook or through mails is a great experience on an 80 inch screen. With 4 HDMI ports, the Vizio M801I-A3 covers an all round home theatre experience. gives Vizio M801I-A3 4/5 stars.
