Westinghouse W3223 Review: 32” LCD HDTV

Up for review: Westinghouse W3223. With a price of around $535, the new 32” W3223 LCD TV from Westinghouse is falls under the budget brand HDTV category. The LCD TV display offers the best flat-panel screen viewing even in brightly-lit rooms. When hooked up to a high definition signal, the Westinghouse W3223 displays images that are sharper and more realistic. You can receive over-the-air high-definition broadcasts through the built-in HDTV tuner of this LCD TV, but for high-definition satellite programming, you need an optional set-up box.

One interesting feature of the Westinghouse W3223 is the DayBright technology where brightness is adjusted automatically for daytime or nighttime viewing. To produce smoother and sharper images, this LCD TV is embedded with 2D OSD graphics engine. In addition to this, any sort of video processing artifacts such as vibration, stair-stepping and cutoff are taken care of by the Deinterlacing technology. The 3:2 pulldown feature of Westinghouse W3223 reduces any possible artifacts that might occur when motion pictures are transferred to other digital format such as DVD.

Some reviews report poor sound quality but this is actually pretty common for smaller HDTV‘s, especially from the budget brands. Other reviews have shown average or less than average picture quality, depending on the user.

The Westinghouse W3223 is a good option for a bedroom or office TV but may not have all the features and quality needed as a primary TV.

Had to return my defective TV to Westinghouse. It’s been about three months and I’m still trying to get someone to respond to my emails and phone calls….. My advice is….If you feel a need to buy a Westinghouse TV, only buy from a trusted retailer where you have some recourse. Currently I am out the money and TV.

  5. Karilyn's reviewJanuary 04, 2010

My parents bought me a 32 inch Westinghouse LCD HDTV on Black Friday that they gave me for Christmas. I was very pleased with the initial product. One week later, the tv would not turn on. I immediately called Westinghouse Customer Service and they told me that I would have to pay for the shipping and handling so the could try and fix it. First of all, I find it appalling that the tv stopped working about a week after if was first used and second, that the company wouldn’t back up their product and pay for the shipping so the tv could be fixed! I decided that I didn’t want to deal with Westinghouse and their unreliable products, so i returned it today and spent another hundred dollars to get a tv that I can rely on. Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time on Westinghouse and their lousy company service.

Well, here I am with the same problem of havng the acrid plastic smell coming from my Westinghouse 32″ and I guess waiting for the shoe to fall…sound or pic failing. I am a single mom with a special needs adult daughter and we purchsed this from Walmart 2 years ago w/income tax money. We’ll never be able to replace it and from what i”ve read there will be no help forthcomig from the company. I need help to get this resolved and certainly can’t afford to ship it to wherever and wait weeks on end. We expected this to last for years and years. How disappointing

DON’T GET A WESTINGHOUSE TV! They don’t back up their products at all!
I’ve been having problems with my two year old westinghouse, the screen randomly goes black. I looked up solutions online and there are many people saying the same thing. Do not get this brand of tv, ever.

even if the price is right, don’t get it. stops working after a couple years – screen goes black and the problems get worse.

My tv started to smoke out the back im afraid to turn it on

  13. D.R.Doak's reviewJanuary 30, 2011

I purchased a 32″ Westinghouse and had problems right off the bat. I returned it for another and that one occasionally would lock up, but with shutting down it would come back on. Less than 4 years it now goes almost black and has to be powered down to come back with a normal picture. It goes black in less than 45 minutes. I spent $ 700.00 on a TV that is basically no good now. I have contacted their techs and was given instructions to try different power outets and such. It did not help and I agree with others, the product should last longer than that. Maybe their planned obsolesence is shorter than most other brands. I most definitely will not buy any Westinghouse products again.

  14. Nicole Jordan's reviewAugust 03, 2011

I guess I am one of the lucky ones….I’ve never had one problem with mine and it is one 24/7 as I am disabled. I’ve had it for 2 yrs now. As far as having the company stand behind the product, I’ve learned long ago that doesn’t happen often…so I usually buy the protection plan that Best Buy or Walmart offers. If it breaks so many times, then they send you a check and you can choose another tv. I love my tv, except I will say that the sound is not the best. I think I will add on another speaker system. Good luck all, and check into the protection plans and price check them as well. I know that for the xbox 360 best buy wanted almost $80 for 2 years after the manufactures warranty expired, but walmart’s plan was only $29 for the same type of protection plan.

I bought 2 of these flat screen tv’s at the same time. One is fine ,the other has been a lemon. The warranty is out now and i do not think its worth fixing again.Don’t think i will ever buy another product made by westinghouse.
