Vizio XVT553SV Review – 55-inch LED LCD HDTV
Originally Reviewed on August 29th, 2010Vizio XVT553SV Review: 55” LED LCD HDTV
Up for Review: Vizio XVT553SV LED LCD TV. Vizio has stepped back from the 3D TV’s to this 2D model but with reasonably good features. It modifies some features found in the 3D models and retains some of them. These models are meant for people who are Internet-savvy and would not mind spending a few dollars more on getting the 55-inch model, but are very skeptical about the 3D technology. They are happy with the normal 2D view but expect very good picture quality for their money. The TruLED backlighting technology makes sure that the brightness is evenly distributed throughout the screen and the Smart Dimming feature provides 120 brightness zones. Each of these zones lights up and darkens as needed thus giving improved images. A lot of energy is also conserved in this process.
This model has full 1080p resolution along with 240Hz SPS refresh rate. Just like in the 3D models, this amount to 120Hz refresh rate with scanning backlighting. But it is expected that this refresh rate will be able to get rid of all the blurring in the TV. It will be easier to judge once the product is released in the market and people are able to compare the images with those of the 480Hz models. Playing fast computer games, watching action movies and sports action will be a pleasure if the 240Hz SPS is capable of giving sharp pictures relieved of artifacts.

Vizio has talked about the SRS Audio “Studio Sound HD” in this set which holds promise of delivering very good sound quality. You can feel the effects of watching the pictures in a theater. And adding strength to the excellent picture quality is the 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. With a brightness of 500 nits and 1.06 billion colors, you can witness clear and natural images along with very good black levels. The manufacturer also provides a QWERTY keyboard remote which is very useful to handle the various controls on the TV. This TV is a good one for you if you want all the latest features sans the 3D one.

i had my tv for 2 days now, both days we had a problem getting speakers to give sound. i dont know what makes it mute, but i turn on the surround sound on my home theater system, and there is volume, but not the speakers from the tv, then after a while, 2 minutes maby 3 the sounds started working. I hate to take it off the wall and get it fixed already, but im not happy just yet. may give it a few more days to see if we can figure it out on our own. i really think its the tv, it worked when we shut it off , but not when we turn it back on in the morning. also there is a serious delay on the internal speakers,or my home heater, you can hear ecohes while both play.you have to shut 1 off. my last tv i used the tv speakers as my center speaker, but not this one. picture is nice, price was ok for an 240 HZ probably didnt need it, but i got it. I had a 50″ Hitachi plasma i replace with this vizio LED..the net flix is an apps on it, kind of nice. were trying it, to early to comment on the apps at this time..

I had this TV for 6 weeks now, and I am pretty disappointed with my purchase. I have doubt between Samsung and Vizio and went with Vizio because it was considerably cheaper. Picture quality is not bad – but Samsung, Panasonic, Sony and bunch of other brand names perform much better. Web Apps are basic, nothing special. However, more than anything else – I was disapointed with their customer “support”. God may help you if you have any troubles with this TV, because Vizio does NOT have customer support. People who might answer your call are untrained and rude, and will try to blame it on you. Yes, it was my fault that PS3 is not compatible with this piece of crap, but XBOX supposedly is. “That Bluetooth sign on the box does not mean that you can pair it up with some other blue tooth devices “(??!). Their one year warranty covers everything – except problems that you have. “Zero bright pixels means …you need to have more than four in order to be covered.” In that case you have to take picture of those pixels (!!! seriously ??), mail it to them and then they will decide what or if to do anything about it. If you are lucky to get to the point of their approval – you can mail it on your expense and pray that their “corporate policy” is to return it to you at some point. Process can take up to several weeks.
Please, save yourself of this humiliation and go buy from trusted brands. Yeah, pay 2-300 hundred dollars more and have real TV wit people who stand behind their product.
