Vizio XVT3D554SV Review: 55” LED LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Vizio XVT3D554SV LED LCD TV. 3D TV’s are all the rage this year and many people have been waiting to see how the country’s fastest up and coming manufacturers would compete. This model surely belongs with the high-end sets and gives you the pleasure of watching 3D technology on the 55-inch screen. This time, the glasses needed for experiencing the 3D technology are somewhat different and employ infra-red sync instead of the Sensio XpanD technology. The viewers still need to adjust to putting on these glasses to get the 3D effect. Time will only tell how many people are really enamored by this technology or if most of them want to give the feature a miss.

This set also has the trend setting Internet Apps which is available via a WiFi- wireless connection. You can view certain sites which the manufacturer has signed up with. And this includes a host of music, video and social networking sites. Vizio promises to make up for the lack of an Internet browser in the upcoming models. It also leads the market in providing the latest firmware updates which is automatically done after you switch off the TV. This saves you the effort of checking manually from time to time so that you always get the best performance on the TV.

Vizio XVT3D554SV Features and Specifications Review:

  • 55-inch display
  • 3D technology
  • 480Hz SPS refresh rate
  • LED backlit with 120 zones of LED dimming
  • Internet Apps
  • Bluetooth audio
  • 5 HDMI inputs

Vizio has refurbished the 480Hz refresh rates in this set and termed it as 480 Hz SPS refresh rate. This amounts to 240 Hz refresh with scanning back lighting. It is expected that this feature will do away with all the blurring and you will be able to view a noise-free and crisp picture. Now that you can watch 3D movies on this set, you will surely expect some fireworks as far as the action is concerned. And the high refresh rate will enable you to watch the fast moving scenes with pleasure. Vizio has made this set LED backlit with 120 zones of LED dimming. Although this will not give the TV a flattering depth, it will certainly give a better picture quality with the different zones being able to brighten up or dim down independently. This ensures that you get great black levels with a much more uniform brightness in the images. Vizio has also assured that there will be very little blooming in the set. The audio is pretty good in this model with SRS Audio “Studio Sound HD”. And you have a QWERTY keyboard remote to control all the settings in the TV. I have had 3 of these 55′ TV, 1 was returned to the store where I purchased it. The 2nd one Vizio took back and replaced with the 3rd one I have. In addition my close friend returned the 2 he tried for many of the same reasons but decided to go with another brand where I was hoping that Vizio had fixed the issues with this set but as I have found they have not.
It’s a wonderful TV; the picture quality is bar none. The sound is very high end and one of the best around and the internet apts are very cool.
The issue is the frame ware software. It causes the TV screen to freeze and then turns itself off. Most but not all of the time it will go into a diagnostic and then turn itself back on. The problem with this is that it will happen when you are watching the TV and I have had it happen up to 4 times an hour. This 3rd, is the one Vizio sent to me directly; will now and then display a very poor picture quality and lock itself up where you have to power it off by disconnecting its power cable.
This has all been happening in the last 5 months. I am currently working with them and have requested a full refund. I was do a response 2 days ago but as of this writing I have not received a response. Which doesn’t make me feel that my request will be approved causing me to have to take more action in order to get this resolved.
If they fix these issues, they have a great TV but because of these issues I cannot recommend.
