ViewSonic N4090W Review – 40-inch LCD HDTV

Originally Reviewed on June 30th, 2008

Continuing our review of the latest ViewSonic high definition displays, the next model is the 40 inch set, the ViewSonic N4090W. This set offers 40 inch of screen real estate, and hit the market in May 2008 at a price point of $1,399. With the recent release of the 42 inch model, you might be able to snap this one up for even lower at various online retailers. It offers full support for 1080p, coupled with a wide variety of connectivity options so you can keep different equipments and components hooked into it at the same time, instead of plugging them out and in again. The set uses the same glossy black bezel finish that most of us have grown accustomed to. The build quality, however, is very solid, and the set weighs in a shade under 40 pounds. Here are the official specs.

The N4090W is ideal for those that want a moderate size HDTV, with a variety of features at an effective price. The screen is perfect for use as the main piece for your home theater, for use in the office, as well as students who’d like to invest in a large screen for their gaming sessions. Speaking of which the set delivers complete 60 frames per second at the highest resolution of 1920 x 1080, which means you’ll get optimum quality when you hook it up with your next-generation console, such as a PlayStation 3. There are 11 input options, three of which are HDMI. It also has support for eleven resolutions when connected to a PC, and these include a variety of different ones, from 640 x 480 and up. This is something that’s seen in very few HDTVs, so it weighs in the sets favor. What doesn’t however, is the surprising lack of picture-in-picture, which is quite frankly a crime in a display of this size. That minor gripe aside, the ViewSonic N4090W delivered sharp and crisp images when connected with HD sources, from Blu-ray, cable, console gaming to PC display. The set came across as an excellent, feature-rich, all-round, and affordable solution.

HDTVUniverse.com gives the ViewSonic N4090W LCD HDTV 9/10 stars!
