ViewSonic N3290W Review – 32-inch LCD HDTV

Originally Reviewed on June 26th, 2008

When people think ViewSonic, the term PC displays immediately comes to mind. Which is no surprise as the company is better known for making computer monitors. It has recently ventured into the HDTV market, and in the last couple of years introduced some very decent solutions to the market. The first set we’ll be reviewing from the company is the ViewSonic N3290W – a 32 inch screen that was announced in May 2008, and retails for $899. It supports a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768, coupled with a variety of connectivity options. The set itself is quite beautiful, with a two inch piano black finish that gives it a glossy look. Two ten watt speakers reside at each side and it also has a 3.7 inch depth that makes it perfect for wall mounting. Here’s a quick look at the specs.

Getting the N3290W up and running is a breeze, what with its easy setup. The black levels were some of the very best out there this side of plasma screens. There should be no noticeable ghosting both when playing HD or regular content. Speaking of which, the standard definition content, while not the best available in a HDTV unit, still remains somewhat crisp. The unit really shines with both high definition gaming and use as a computer monitor. There is unfortunately no USB connectivity, which is a bit of a downer. The two 10-watt speakers located below the screen pumped up decent sound – you can get away with it, but a dedicated surround speaker setup is nonetheless recommended for optimal acoustic experience. The ViewSonic N3290W offers a sleek and charming design, vivid graphics with very decent audio and connectivity options, all at an attractive price point of $899. Two thumbs up.

HDTVUniverse.com gives the ViewSonic N3290W LCD HDTV 9/10 stars!
