Sharp, one of the top manufacturers of LCD TVs, has once again come up with a new design standard that seems to pose a trendsetter for medium screen size LCD TVs. With its incredible sleek designs implemented on decent screen sizes ranging from 42 to 65 inches, Sharp has again succeeded to remain in the upper echelon of LCD HDTV sales. Sharp’s engineers have very tactfully made a few alterations in the layout of circuits within the LCD panel and have reduced certain parts to trim down the depth of their new series of LCD TVs by almost 30%. This lets the D64U models to be placed in virtually any setting. Sharp has also managed to give some nice design touches to this piano-black colored model to make it look decently attractive and eye-catching. Another unique feature that sounds appealing is that the LC46D64U comes with Sharp’s Aquos Link Consumer Electronics Control support, which allows the appliance be controlled and even control other Sharp devices.

The LC46D64U is equipped with Sharp’s proprietary ASV black 10-bit TFT panel featuring multi-pixel technology for a clear image display on its panel. The LCD comes with a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 10000:1, which is relatively much lower as compared with Sharp’s LE series; however, it is well complemented by an enhanced Picture Contrast Technology and the 4ms response time. The LC46D64U is OPC enabled, which means that the brightness of the screen gets automatically adjusted as per the room’s lighting conditions. A native screen resolution of 1080p renders Sharp LC46D64U with sharper images and superior picture quality. There is an interesting 32-step backlight control feature in this model that produces deeper blacks from the set. The set comes with five color temperature presets and an advanced color management system that allows you to tweak hue and saturation for primary as well as secondary colors.
The LC46D64U offers you excellent connectivity features by today’s on-demand HDTV standards. The inputs are split into two distinct groups, 3 HDMI inputs, a PC input and 2 HD components on the rear end and a RS-232C on the side of the panel for hooking up with with custom control systems. You will also find a third HDMI input on the front side of the panel with a second AV input. The positioning of the ports allows you to much conveniently connect your external devices. The set comes with built-in ATSC, NTSC and QAM tuners that receive OTA broadcasts. On adjusting the setting properly, the TV will get automatically shut itself off if it does not receive any signal till 15 minutes or if it does not detect any user interaction till 3 hours. This power-saving feature of the smart device also facilitates to avoid image retention. The LC46D64U has truly an excellent audio system and you have an option to use your DVD player to hear music without bothering the display screen to be switched on. Its sound specs are definitely not the ones you find on a home theatre system; still it manages to produce clear sound, without any noise or distortion.
Overall, the TV is a satisfying one and can be graded equal with the Vizio VO47LF or the Samsung LN46A650. The LC46D64U is reasonably priced and is quite easy to use.
