Samsung LN32C550 Review: 32” LCD HDTV

Up for Review: Samsung LN32C550 LCD TV. Samsung has taken care of the aesthetics of all its models released this year. Even this 32-inch set has been blessed with a Touch of Color bezel which makes the TV look really nice even when it is off. It is a surety that you will never want this model to grace your living room. But your office or your kid’s dorm will also look great with this set. In fact, this TV is just right for your kids to watch their favorite cartoons and for you to watch the news and the weather. You can also keep the TV in the bedroom and watch the late night movies with your partner.

But if you are a sports buff, you may not like the blurring which results when the cars whiz by in the Formula I championships. This blurring is because of the 60Hz refresh rate in this TV. There is no 120Hz Clear Motion Rate in this model which would have enabled you to watch blur-free motion. But since the emphasis of the manufacturer is on producing a basic TV with good picture quality but low price, there is bound to be a lot of compromises with the features. Samsung has made this set quite affordable at a price of $699.99 MSRP (often much less at Amazon.com).

Samsung has never compromised with the picture quality and you get great images with the help of 1080p resolution, 80,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and Wide Color Enhancer on this set too. The images are fairly sharp, mainly due to the 1080p resolution on the smaller screen size, with very natural and varied color range. You can feel the life like quality of the images even in this small sized TV. The black levels are good but are much better in the higher-end models. The brightness in the images is adequate for watching under all kinds of lighting conditions.

The presence of 4 HDMI is a real treat in this set. It gives you more variety in entertainment and you can supplement your TV programs with movies on the Blu-ray disc player, games on the gaming console and videos on the camcorder. There is also a USB port for viewing photos on the digital camera. You can also use the USB port to connect to your thumb drive and access all content there through the ConnectShare feature. Streaming content from the PC is also possible thorough the AllShare feature. If you are happy with the few features on this TV, then it will be a good choice for the low price.
