LG 47LV5500 Review: 47” LED LCD HDTV
Up for Review: LG 47LV5500 LED LCD TV. This model from LG cannot exactly be called a high-end set nor can it be classified as a basic one. It has Smart TV, 120 Hz refresh rate and the best connectivity features. But at the same time, it lacks the much acclaimed 3D technology and the very high refresh rate of 480 Hz. The display size is also neither too large, nearing the 60 inches mark, nor too low, hovering around 30 inches. In fact, this 47-inch can fit into any space, be it the living room or the kid’s dormitory. The features are also likely to satisfy most of the people, especially the ones who have no interest in 3D.
Smart TV is the most appealing feature of this set as you can use your broadband connection to view any amount of content from the Internet sites. The sets of last year only had Net TV feature which could only give you limited sites with no web browser. You can access new apps too with this feature. You can now stream music from Pandora and videos from Netflix without logging into your computer. Among the other content that you can access are sports scores, weather forecast, networking apps, news, social networking sites and many other applications. Firmware updates from the manufacturer also helps you to keep in touch with the new bouquet of applications.

Being an LED back-lit TV, you can expect the picture quality to be above reproach. The blacks are very good and you get just the right zones lit up on the screen to show better images. A dynamic contrast ratio of 4,000,000:1 also adds to the picture quality by enhancing the black levels. The set is equipped with full HD, which is what you can expect from a TV with good features and a price of $1499.99 MSRP. The refresh rate of 120 Hz is good enough to keep the blurring out in the high action scenes, but you may have expected 240Hz or more in the new sets of this year.
Connectivity features are quite good too with 4 HDMI. There are 2 component video and 2 composite video inputs along with a VGA input. And if this is not enough, you can stream all the content from the thumb drives or connect your digital camera through the 2 USB ports. There is also a network port along with the facility to use headphones. A sound output of 20W is good enough for the living room if you can sit quietly and watch the programs. There are 2 speakers and the TV also has surround sound feature. And as far as the energy conservation is concerned, the set is Energy Star qualified along with the Greenpeace policy rating of 3.5. Your decision to buy this set will be a good one if you have no fancy for the 3D feature.
