Up for review: LG 42LH20 42-inch LCD TV. The LG 42LH20 is a new release for 2009 from LG. The LH20 series is the entry-point for LCD TV’s so they don’t have all the latest features but they are incredibly low priced. The look is the same: glossy black bezel, with no other buttons to taint the front panel. The ports are in the back. The left side does not have any buttons. Some of the control buttons are there on the right side with white labeling. The HDTV is supported by a stand but it can be mounted on a wall too.
The resolution of the LG 42LH20 is 720p unlike 1080p in LG”s other LCD lines. Although 720p is high definition, it isn’t the best possible resolution which is 1080p. This HDTV does not have the backlight feature of LG but the brightness and contrast are expected to be good. The display matches LG standards but it remains to be seen whether judder has been avoided in the HDTV.
The images are good when viewed from the normal viewing angle. You need to sit at the proper place in order to get the best effects of this HDTV. It is the same with colors as well. The normal angles show vibrant colors but the difficult viewing angles show faded colors. There are 2 HDMI ports available for DVD, Blu-ray or other devices.

The LG 24LH20 has the SimpLink technology of other LG models so you can use your remote to control other HD devices connected across the HDMI ports. The core LG technologies have been integrated into this HDTV. Audio features have been enhanced with Clear Voice II. You can adjust the voice controls to hear the dialogues clearly above the background noise. The speakers have been hidden from view. LG incorporates the Invisible Speakers in the LG 42LH20.
Power conservation is a serious issue here. The LG 42LH20 conforms to the Energy Star requirements. The “Smart Energy Saving” package lays stress on using less power whenever possible. The LG 42LH20 doesn’t have all the bells and whistles but it does have the LG name and a very competitive price. This LCD HDTV would be a great addition for anyone who wants a good sized screens and doesn’t care about all of the “extras”.
