LG 37LH20 Review: 37” 720p LCD HDTV

Up for review: LG 37LH20 LCD HDTV.  LG introduced the 37LH20 in the market targeting consumers who are looking for a large flat panel TV and a very low price. The review shows that it has 720p resolution compared to the 1080p resolution of higher-end HDTV’s. The maximum resolution is 1366 x 768. With a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, you can watch every movie or program with the same clarity and visual beauty. The 37 inch screen size is perfect to watch, and a very common screen size because it works in just about any room. It has a 178 degree viewing angle which suits the vision of anyone sitting anywhere in the room.

The LG 37LH20 has a built-in HDTV tuner. You just need to connect an HD-capable antenna to receive all broadcasts over-the-air. You can connect to satellite programming with an additional set-top box. LG provides 3 color temperature modes and 3 A/V modes to customize picture and sound for movies, sports or games. You can set your favorite sports channels in one mode and toggle to view any one of them. You can also play the built-in games integrated into the HDTV.

Color, brightness, contrast and other details like reduced signal noise are looked after by the XD Image Processing Engine technology. The result is that the images are vivid and true-to-life. The 5 ms response time too ensures that the action sequences can be followed without any trailing on the screen. The pixels will refresh themselves very fast so that the transition in the frames goes unnoticed. Other image enhancement technologies provided in the LG 37LH20 are 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and brightness up to 450 cd/sq.m. It also supports wide color gamut, Super IPS panel and Picture Wizard.

The LG 37LH20 incorporates a 2-way, built-in, 20W speaker system with Dolby Digital sound decoder. The surround sound experience is provided by the SRS TruSurround XT. You can play around with the audio system by changing the bass, treble and balance controls and 5 sound modes. You can also do away with the annoying sound during commercials by setting the volume fluctuations. The Clear Voice II lets you better hear voices during movies and TV shows and less of the background noise.

Reviews show there are 2 HDMI inputs in the LG 37LH20. You can access HD-compatible devices on your HDTV.  A child safety feature is included that lets you block certain channels from being viewed.

The LG 37LH20 is also Energy Star qualified. A lot of energy is saved with backlight control options. LG has also introduced a special package to look after the energy conservation. This HDTV definitely doesn’t have all the latest gadgets but it does the important things well like having a great picture, easy to use and good audio.  Unless you’re an audio/video junkie, the 37LH20 is a great HDTV at a bargain price.
