Up for Review: AOC Envision L42H961 LCD TV. This model will suit you if you are searching for an inexpensive and no-frills 42-inch 1080p LCD TV. The TV set scores highly in handling contrast, brightness, color, and skin tones, but still lacks some of the sharpness and details which could have been achieved at a refresh rate of more than 60Hz. Also, there are no feature to enhance programs containing high amount of fast motion sports actions. The model is effective in providing standard image quality when the content is not involving fast motion.
With the inputs like HDMI (4), the model provides much better and secure connections. This feature helps to simultaneously connect any four AV devices like DVD player, camcorder, video games and digital camera. After attaching the additional AV devices, you can access their contents directly on the TV screen just like a PC. But there is no network connectivity, an SD Card slot, or a USB port for media playback which would have helped in enhancing the overall quality of the TV model.

The TV set does not have a first-time setup wizard. So after switching on the L42H961 for the first time, you can simply view a local station. There is a quick-setup sheet provided along with the model which explains the procedures for navigating the on-screen menus. But you have to initiate the automatic channels search by hooking up an additional coaxial-cable. Also you can connect a cable box using the HDMI feature which does not require any further automatic channel scanning. So this lack of first-time setup wizard can be overcome by using some other features included in the TV set.
The L42H961 supports some advanced transmission standards like NTSC, Digital ASTC and Clear-QAM Tuners. So with a serviceable remote you can easily switch between the inputs. But you do not have the option to control all digital devices in your home entertainment system with a single remote, as can be done in other advanced models.
On the whole, the AOC L42H961 LCD TV may not provide you with all the features of your dream TV, but you can still buy the TV set on a tight budget. You may not exactly love to watch fast-paced action and sports on this TV, but it can be considered due to is lower price tag.

I bought a 42′ Samsung. I love it, and I wouldn’t have gone with any other brand. After I started working for DISH I appreciate a quality picture so much more, and it is safe to say that I am probably an HD snob. I love being able to have all of my entertainment in crystal clear quality. It was well worth the money!
